SR Technics Celebrates Significant Milestone with GTF Engine Shop and Test Cell 2 Opening
SR Technics has opened a new state-of-the-art engine maintenance facility dedicated to the Pratt & Whitney GTF™ engine, accompanied by the successful reconstruction of a second test cell. The facilities,
located in Zurich, Switzerland, marked the 17th active location worldwide within the GTF MRO network and will maintain PW1100G-JM engines for the A320neo family aircraft with full disassembly, assembly, and test capabilities. To commemorate the occasion, an official opening ceremony was held in Zurich, where guests were given an exclusive tour of the newly constructed shop floor and Test Cell 2. Attendees included representatives from Pratt & Whitney, FOCA, local authorities, business partners, shareholder representatives, and SR Technics employees. The event highlighted the cutting-edge infrastructure and innovation that define SR Technics' commitment to growth and excellence in the aviation industry.
SR Technics signed an agreement with Pratt & Whitney in April 2022 to become part of its GTF MRO network, joining the global group of providers that maintain the GTF engine. With this, SR Technics is enhancing its repair capability and overall competitiveness by securing and expanding its highly skilled workforce in Switzerland to meet the new capacity demand. SR Technics has invested a double-digit million
Swiss francs has been invested in the facilities at the Zurich-Airport site, in special tools, dedicated maintenance equipment, and the new test cell to accommodate the new maintenance work. SR Technics anticipates servicing over 1,000 GTF engines throughout the life of the agreement and has started work on its first engine already in July.
“During the last 18 months, the SR Technics’ team has put great work into setting up new teams and new infrastructure. We are grateful for all the support received from our partners involved in this complex project. This investment paves a new chapter for future business in our company,” says Owen McClave, Chief Executive Officer at SR Technics.
“SR Technics will play integral role in supporting the growing GTF fleet around the world,” said Rob Griffiths, senior vice president, Commercial Engines Operations at Pratt & Whitney. “With their extensive experience over more than nine decades, we are confident they will deliver the industry-leading services our customers expect.”
“SR Technics will be servicing the state of the art of the engine world. These ultramodern engines consume less fuel, emit fewer pollutants and are quieter overall,” says Christian Hegner, Director General of the Swiss Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA).
